Cleaning Chocolate Stains from Carpets
After the Easter egg hunts come the chocolate! Who doesn’t love chocolate?! I would be happy to say that chocolate in the essence of life, but I’d be exaggerating just a tad. Dark chocolate is an antioxidant- rich superfood and had been known to benefit our health in several ways including improving our cognitive functions, it improves heart health, aids in protecting us from disease-causing free radicals, and it’s benefits our cholesterol profile! The list goes on, but what is one thing chocolate is not beneficial to? Yep, you guessed it! Our carpets! Chocolate melts when it gets warm and hardens up when it cools down which can make a mess! Here are some tips to remove chocolate from your carpets or rugs.
-Gently scrape as much of the chocolate off the carpeted surface as possible, scraping from the outside in as to not spread it around anymore.
-Then vacuum up any crumbs that may have been dislocated from the area you just worked on, so you don’t make a second mess.
-Next, you should soak the area with a mix of hot water and a ¼ teaspoon of mild detergent to heat up the affected area making the remaining smashed in chocolate easier to remove.
-Lastly you will want to blot the water mix with a clean cloth, after each blot you should either replace the rag for a clean one or move to a clean part of the rag, so you don’t reintroduce the stain back into the affected area. -Then repeat as necessary. The lighter the carpets, the more difficult the stain will be to remove.
